The Vodița Monastery

The Vodita Monastery is the oldest princely monastery documented as the first monastic settlement founded in our country. The monastery was built in XIV century by St. Nicodemus, by order of the Prince Vladislav I and is located near the village Vârciorova in Mehedinti county, on the road leading to Orşova .

Following the Austro-Turkish war in the eighteenth century, the monastery suffered major damage, reaching a ruin.

The monastery was re-established between 1991 and 1995, becoming a monk monastery. The facilities of the monastery include an abbey, a refectory and the church, whose implementation began in 1995.
